The celebrated Nova Scotia artist Tom Forrestall has created two new artworks to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Eldon George and the Parrsboro Rock and Mineral Shop.
Eldon George started the Parrsboro Rock and Mineral Shop in 1948 at the age of 17. Eldon was awarded the Order of Nova Scotia in 2013 for his contributions to geology and tourism along the Parrsboro Shore. The Cumberland Geological Society has recently purchased the Rock Shop, in order to create a permanent exhibit at the Fundy Geological Museum that will pay tribute to Eldon’s contributions to science and the region.
Forrestall has created a magical water colour painting that captures the details of exterior of the Parrsboro Rock and Mineral Shop. The Rock Shop has become an important destination on the Parrboro Shore, with thousands of people returning every year to visit the playful and interesting Rock Shop and Museum.
Tom Forrestall was invited to create the work by Mary O’Regan, as a tribute to Eldon and his important contributions to Nova Scotia and the Parrsboro area.
Forrestall spent a week visiting Eldon and the famous Parrsboro Rock and Mineral Shop. The painting and portrait were created after visiting several beach sites with Eldon, and completing several sketches of the landscape.
